DJ, producer, turntablist and one-time DMC champion, Koflow most definitely knows vinyl right down to its last groove. And in the latest #vinyloftheday x ZIGGY collabo, we got the man himself to shed light on how these humble plates have shaped his passion, his calling and his career. In the video below, Koflow recounts how he got acquainted with vinyl and turntablism – "I went to one of my friend's house, and he was playing and scratching records, and that's when I told myself that that's what I needed to be" – that led to his participation in the DMCs and scratch competitions. He also shares how the craft has changed with technology over the years, and how his allegiance has remained clear: "My favourite records are those that I can play for the b-boys." Along the way, we also peek into Koflow's record bag for his perennial favourites, which involves "a lot of Latin funk and Afro funk and California funk", and learn how his collection continues to grow. "When I travel, what I like to do is pick out records that are from that specific country and bring it back home," he says, "It's like how people collect magnets for their refrigerator, I like to collect records from different countries."
